About SunGain
Musheg Saakyan and Chris Shaffer founded SunGain to empower solar energy ownership among the residents of Staten Island. Learn more about us here.
Most of our systems are manufactured in the USA. We always want to ensure our solar systems are made of top-quality resources. Therefore, sometimes we have to source specialty items from outside the country when they aren’t available here due to a missing link in the supply chain.
Currently, SunGain focuses only on residential solar solutions.

General solar questions
As noted in Forbes, New Yorkers with solar-powered homes save an average of $1,574.78 per year, with an estimated saving on electricity between $25,500 to $33,000 over the lifetime of your solar solution (averaging 25 years). Not only are you saving money, but you are also helping the environment and making the world better for our children.
Yes, according to a study by Zillow, homes sell for an average of 4% higher if they have solar panels. Note that this percentage is only expected to increase as homebuyers become more environmentally conscious and also desire to save money on their bills.
Solar panels on the top of a roof absorb sunlight and convert the sun’s energy into what’s known as direct current electricity. This electricity flows into an inverter where the current is converted into AC power, which is what you use to power your home’s lights and appliances.
Technically no, solar panels do not produce energy during the night as they rely on the sun for power. Solar panels power down when the sun sets, and interested homeowners can utilize the solar energy stored via net metering, meaning the extra power your panels produce is stored by the utility company and can be used later on – i.e., during the nighttime or cloudy days.
The answer simply depends on the age and condition of your roof. If your roof is over 15 years old, we strongly recommend you talk to us about replacing your roof because your solar system will last approximately 30 years post-installation.
